Originally from Brazil, when Evan Tesser stepped off the plane 18 months ago and dropped by the restaurant with his CV, we snapped him up as fast as you can say “beso, beso, beso” (which is how Evan ends the phone calls he makes back home during a well-earned break. It means “kiss, kiss, kiss” – we know… it’s adorable!)
With over 10 years experience in restaurant kitchens, Evan quickly became a much loved and valued member of the Dux Dine family. You will see Evan’s influence in some of our special menu additions, and some of you will have enjoyed his Gomes de sa dish that we ran over the long Easter weekend.
If you have a look through his instagram, you will see his passion for food and for travel – it seems to us that the man never has a meal at home. His favourite spot in New Zealand so far: The Marlborough Sounds
Evan’s pick from our menu is the Line Caught Groper from our dinner menu, paired with Villa Maria’s Keltern Chardonnay. “The meaty fish is so well balanced by that wine of medium body” he says in his beguiling Brazilian accent.
Fun fact about Evan: before joining us, he worked in a Michelin-starred restaurant in Finland.
We are lucky, and grateful to have him as part of our team.
